Dubai Municipality & Dubai Frame
Dubai Municipality was founded in 1954, beginning
with just seven employees responsible for maintaining cleanliness in the city.
It officially became an institution on February 28, 1957, through a decree
appointing 23 municipal council members from the countries elders and traders.
Their initial focus was on health, architecture, and city beautification,
alongside providing suggestions to the government.
In 1974, a new decree issued by His Highness Sheikh Rashid
bin Saeed Al Maktoum established Dubai Municipality in its modern form. This
decree granted it independent authority across the entire Emirate, including
forming a Municipal Council and administration to implement policies. By 1980,
the council was expanded to 32 members, led by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin
Rashid Al Maktoum.
Today, Dubai Municipality has evolved significantly in line
with the citys growth. It employs around 11,000 people across 34 departments. It is organized into six sectors: International Affairs & Partnership, General
Support, Environment Health & Safety Control, Environmental & Public
Health Services, Planning & Engineering, and Corporate Support. Dubai
Municipality plays a vital role in the city’s development, making it one of the regions largest and most influential governmental bodies.
